Panamaram Kottillam (heronry) is one of the best bird sanctuary in the Wayand district of Kerala. The Kottillam was added to Panamaram due to the extraordinary bird nests in the small island of the Kabani river.  During monsoon season it is such a nice view of the island.

The main attraction of this Kottillam is the Oriental White Ibis. It is also called as Arival Kokkan in malayalam. The white Ibis is included in the threatened group of Indian endangered birds' list. Four sides of the Panamaram island is surrounded by water and it shields the Kottillam from easy access.

Now the cutting of bamboos in the Panamaram island and invading by bird hunters has reduced the number of bird nests in Panamaram Kottillam. Perumundi Kokku and Cherumundi Kokku are the real attractions of this beautiful island. The Panamaram island is an excellent shelter for migrating birds. Migrating birds will reach here if there eyes are closed also.
