Following is a traditional alert equipment used by locals living near forests in Kerala. This equipment is used by local people of Kerala to escape from wild animals like wild pig and wild elephants.

Local technique to escape from wild animals

The two sticks are tied to metal strings that will lie across the border. These type of installements are made across the forest border. Once the wild pig or elephants cross to human living areas the metal strings will be engaged by the body touch of elephants and pigs. This will remove one of the sticks to the side and stone will fall to another stone laid below the alert equipment. This falling will initiate a fire cracker. The sound of cracker may be taken by the wild animals and they will fall back. Or it can be taken as a warning for locals to take other preventive measures to escape from wild animals. Local people normally try to fear the wild pigs and elephants with equipments like fire crackers, patta kottal (make large sound by drumming steal buckets), etc.
